When implementing quality improvement in manufacturing there are a lot of methods and specific techniques out there. To name just a few:

  • Six sigma, Lean Six Sigma, DFSS
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Theory of constraints (TOC)
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
  • Statistical Proces Control (SPC)
  • Process Capbility Analysis
  • Design of experiments (DOE)
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Statistical Quality Control (SQC)
  • Calibration
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Lean manufacturing
  • Poke Yoke
  • Kaizen
  • SMED

and we can easily mention 50 more acronyms.

To make things more complicated there are a lot of certification requirements. These requirements are often specific for a type of industry, country and they evolve over time.

For example, in the automotive industry the systems QS9000 (USA), VDA (Germany), EAQF (France) and AVSQ (Italy) are integrated into the IATF16949 requirements to supply the best services to the customers through a consistent quality system and the minimum time and cost for world-wide suppliers from too many certifications.
In food industry, we find ISO 22000 which is the standard based on HACCP and ISO9000 but in addition there can also be FDA requirements. In medical device industry we find the ISO standard 13485 and also the FDA requirements.
For specific companies it becomes complicated if they have customers in different types of industries all with different certification standards.

When implementing a quality management system 5 techniques will be useful in the day to day operation: FMEA, Gage Management (Calibration and MSA), SPC, OEE and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action and customer complaints).

These are the techniques which are implemented using the DataLyzer software suite. DataLyzer systems can be configured to support all certification requirements. In this part of the website we will offer the theoretic fundamentals of the techniques used.
