Versions of DataLyzer® Spectrum with “B3” or “C6” in the Serial Number allow users to specify parameters to be used as primary or secondary subgroup labels in control charts.
There are two types of subgroup labeling that can be applied individually or together. The two types of subgroup labeling are “subgroup label” and “secondary label”. Subgroup Labels using parameters take the place of normal subgroup labels. Each subgroup’s parameter entry is displayed. Secondary labels are similar to subgroup number labels. They appear in the graph between the subgroup lines and show the parameter entry for the given characteristic. To avoid cluttering of the control chart, if a parameter’s value is recorded more than once in a row, the repeated value is not shown after the first time until a new value is recorded. When the new value is recorded, it is once again shown on the chart.
The picture below is an example of subgroup labeling with both types of labels. The subgroup labels appear across the bottom of the control chart, with the primary label in black and the secondary label in white.

Subgroup labels can only be changed individually at the characteristic-level because different parts offer different combinations of parameters. To change the subgroup labeling, open the characteristic and select PREFERENCES/SET PREFERENCES. Go to the Control Chart Presentation tab. In the lower left-hand corner, there is an area called Control Chart Label. To set a subgroup label, select the parameter you wish to be the label from the drop down box. To select a secondary label, select the desired parameter from the drop down box. To return to the default of subgroup numbering with no secondary label, leave both fields blank.
